Bitumen Primer

Koster Bitumen primer is suitable for all absorbent mineral surfaces, bituminous roofing felt, sheet metal and wood. Suited for priming before the refurbishment of old thick film bitumen coatings.

Koster Bitumen primer acts as a stabiliser for dusty, porous substrates before installation of a variety of bituminous products. It’s not suitable for application to ICF (Insulating Concrete Formwork) or insulation boards. In this instance, a water-based primer is required.

Using Koster Bitumen Primer

Substrates must be clean, free from any contaminants and loose particles. They must be dry or slightly damp and any damaged concrete, cracks or plasters should be repaired before application.

This thin film coat should be applied to the surface by brush, roller or a suitable spraying device. Subsequent coatings can be applied after the priming layer has cured. Damp substrates, high temperatures or extensive direct exposure to sunlight may cause blistering of the applied primer film due to vapour diffusion.
